Ghar Wapasi and Shuddhi: A Tradition of Return

Ghar Wapasi, or Shuddhi, traces its origins to Deval Rishi, who authored the Deval Smriti. This ancient text established guidelines for the reconversion of individuals who were forcibly converted to Islam, particularly following the invasion of Bin Qasim in 711 A.D.
While the Vedic scriptures were written long before the emergence of monotheistic prophetic religions and do not explicitly mention the concept of conversion, Hinduism is a living tradition. Unlike these religions, Hindus have the capacity to evolve and embrace new ideas over time. In today’s context, the call for reconversion is more relevant than ever, emphasizing the importance of returning to one's roots and cultural heritage.
